Top 100 Science-Fiction Films

Welcome to the Top 100 Science-Fiction Films page. This is a work in progress, so the initial rankings will look weird.

In working on the Top 100 War Films I realized that I wanted to do one for science fiction as well. This one is somewhat more daunting, though, as I think what makes a good sci-fi film is much more subjective and dependent on the viewer. That is because of the themes and ideas that can be explored through the sci-fi genre. It is much more flexible that a war film (in my opinion), but that allows for much more variance in opinion.

Like the war films list, I have winnowed my initial viewing list down to 150-60 films that I think represent the higher end of quality. With a few duds thrown in because you need to have the contrast. What this means is that the first 100 films I see will initially be on this list before some disappear as they are knocked off by others. It also means that some films will be ranked way higher than they should to start, since they can only be compared to what it already on the list.

So here's the list.
